‘Rosehip’ comes from the Greek kunorodon, which literally means “dog rose”, in reference to its ability to protect against rabid dog bites. The plant is also known as an ‘ass-scratcher’ because of the hairs attached to the fruit, which children used in the past as scratching hairs. This tradition was also found among the Amerindians, who claimed that those who ate the hairs were afflicted by a painful itch on their bottom.

In the kitchen, it makes a delicious jam. You can also prepare a recipe for a sweet Swedish soup containing the pulp of this fruit cooked in sweetened milk.
