A member of the Myrtaceae family, Eucalyptus is native to Australia. Aborigines used the sap of Eucalyptus globulus or “blue gum” as a direct application or wash on their wounds to hasten healing. Blue gum was proclaimed Tasmania's floral emblem on November 27, 1962. The Latin name of the species, “globulus”, refers to the shape of the fruit's operculum.
