MONARDA FISTULOSA

Monarda is a plant with large, pinkish-red flowers. It was the botanist Nicolas Monardes who gave his name to this plant. It was known to the Amerindians, who used it for hair care and as a herbal tea for its diuretic, stimulating and antiseptic properties. Known as "red tea", it was used before ceremonies and in sweat lodges to promote elimination, as it stimulates perspiration.
