THEIR HEALTH BENEFITS

We've all heard of or used Rose, Cornflower or Orange Blossom water - to name but a few! These floral waters, for example, are part of the hydrolat family and are milder than essential oils. They do not need to be used with the same care and can be taken orally as an herbal tea (1 teaspoon in a glass of water), sprayed on a mucous membrane (mouth, throat) or applied to the skin (face, body, hair). In cosmetics, they are used as a cleansing and toning lotion for the face and as a scented water to refresh the body.

But what do we really know about how to use them and their health benefits?

To answer this question, Jean-Philippe Zahalka takes us through 70 of the most popular hydrolats and floral waters used in his pharmacy, or 100 common ailments.

In addition to his advice and formulas adapted to these conditions, he also tells us what a hydrolat and a floral water are, how they are obtained and what their properties and possible uses are. Each hydrolat (HA) has similar (sometimes different) virtues to the corresponding essential oil (EO), but its use is much gentler: its concentration is lower in aromatic molecules, and it is particularly suitable for fragile and sensitive mucous membranes, as well as for children.

At the end of the book, you will find an alphabetical classification of the 70 hydrolats and floral waters mentioned in this dictionary, as well as an aromatherapy and therapeutic index.

Jean-Philippe Zahalka is a Doctor of Pharmacy. In his Parisian dispensary on rue Mouffetard, plants and essential oils take pride of place. He has around 500 varieties in shop. An inexhaustible source of information, he delivers his advice and secrets for the well-being and healing of his customers with conviction. The author makes his own preparations of essential oils, hydrolats and floral waters in his dispensary. This eagerly-awaited book complements the Dictionnaire complet d'aromathérapie published by the same publisher.
